Issues on urban informal settlers

Social and political criticisms

Rizal PHL  |  July 14, 2013

A lot of forum and debate has come up in the light of the proposed demolition of houses on river banks and waterways.  They clog up the waterways with their wastes and cause the frequent flooding;  the multibillion flood control structures have been rendered useless by the waste they throw into the waterways.

Now on the issue of relocation:  the govt has to shoulder the cost of relocation as provided for by in the Lina law.  Could preventive measures be taken to prevent them from occupying the river banks in the first place.

I heard that inviting squatters:   increase IRA allocation and pad the votes of the candidates.

So being elected is a priority over good governance and being populist is a preferred  strategy.

So we have to suffer the floods; because of this misguided (?) priorities?
