Al Jazeera feature documentary

It is more fun criticizing

Rizal Philippines  |  October 28, 2014

The Al Jazeera series on Manila slums is a big or should be a big embarrassment for our Manila officials and Phil government and they must conduct a media blitz to neutralize the negative image it has created worldwide; and to do steps to remove squalor filth and poverty in our midst.

Big words yes, pragmatic though  We have done much to touch the lives of people living in the slum.   As bad as in Africa or in India.

Let us help.  Let us have progress trickle down in the slum areas.

Mayor Erap para sa mahihirap.  Magpakita ka naman ng himala!!!

Quarantined NJ nurse to sue govt? USA is not Ebola free - thanks to unfettered freedom

Nurse discharged from quarantine - from NBC New York

Kaci Hickox

The civil rights  lawyers of quarantined NJ nurse promised to have her released from quarantine and filed constitutional challenge to quarantine of nurses returning from work in West Africa treating Ebola.

I guess there is too much freedom in the land of the free, USA and have forgotten their  priorities.  I know the state will win and it is time to dump the lawyers who will willingly risk having Ebola spread in USA, for a few dollars more (maybe plenty) and media mileage.

The Nigeria action was straightforward - travel ban with neighboring West African countries known to have Ebola and strict monitoring and quarantine.  And they were able to contain Ebola.

It is not possible to say that for USA.   It is not Ebola free.  Craig Spencer and Thomas Duncan death say that.

Dr Craig Spencer of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) a New Yorker was tested positive for Ebola

#Preneed companies are #predestined to have #turstfund deficiency and thus fail

It is more fun criticizing

Only 20 pre need companies are in good health

There were more than a hundred pre need companies at SEC.  However, at OIC only 20 remain.  The last to be closed by OIC were Permanent and Prudential Life.

And we begin to wonder.  Why?

After examining the Pre Need Law RA 9829 or the the Pre Need Code of the Philippines; and examining the Trust Fund requirements:

5% on the first year

15% on the second year

70% on the 3rd to 5th year, the total trust fund contribution is only 46% and with returns of only 0.5 to 3.0% there is a great impossibility of building the fund requirement to meet the financial obligation

It will take a great deal of financial genius to recover the 54% fund deficiency.   And if the pre need company does not have a genius, then it is bound to have trust fund that is deficient and can be closed down by OIC.

The law and formula are defective, dont you think so?

Naligaw sa tuwid na daan? nalihis, nadapa?

It is more fun criticizing

From Rappler October 14, 2014

From Inquirer October 13, 2014

Nalihis, naligaw, nadapa?

About 36% of the Filipinos believe that Pres PNoy strayed from his promised path of tuwid na daan, and only 29% believe that he has fulfilled his promise. The "tuwid na daan" referring to fight vs pollution was used in 2010 to win votes.

That there was PDAF, DAP and many of the President's men are under suspicion of wrongdoings may have contributed to this perception.

Veiled text threat vs TV anchor Anthony Taberna is alarming

It is more fun criticizing

We noted with great concern, and it is not funny that an anonymous text was sent to TV Anchor of ABS CBN  for criticizing a police officer superior at his program.   Such is an attack on press freedom, and merely reenforces a crooked culture among police officer.  They are here not to serve and protect but to threaten and intimidate

But the fact remains that there is no check to the officer in question because the country's top honcho supports him rightly or wrongly.

"Mga pulis maawa na kayo kay Kuya Tonying.  Ang payatot na nga eh."

This is not true not only in Phil.  So as the saying goes, power corrupts and it corrupts absolutely.  Power in the hands of minions is as intoxicating as the power in the hands of the chiefs.   So we see police brutality in US and elsewhere in the world.

The Napolcom and PLEB i guess are of no are useless.

The importance of leadership in a campaign

It is more fun criticizing

In the movie of War Fog, about Robert McNamara, fmr Sec US of Defense, he describes his role under the command of Gen Curtis LeMay who was in charge of bombing campaign over Germany.  He noticed that there were lot of mechanical problems in the the report of mission.  He surmised, and the statistician found out that these problems were not real.  The flight crew were terrified. With a mortality rate of 5% and 20 sorties in the service period of most crew, the crew would surely die.  So they created all excuses not to go.

Gen LeMay had a solution to this.  He would personally lead the mission;  and the mechanical problems were dramatically reduced

That is what leadership can do..

From Wiki on Gen Curtis LeMay

Robert McNamara described LeMay's character, in a discussion of a report into high abort rates in bomber missions during World War II:
One of the commanders was Curtis LeMay—Colonel in command of a B-24 [sic] group. He was the finest combat commander of any service I came across in war. But he was extraordinarily belligerent, many thought brutal. He got the report. He issued an order. He said, 'I will be in the lead plane on every mission. Any plane that takes off will go over the target, or the crew will be court-martialed.' The abort rate dropped overnight. Now that's the kind of commander he was.[12]

He headed the SAC Strategic Air Command in 1948

Antonio Tiu denies involvement with the Binay - they are no #dummies

It is more fun criticizing

Antonio Tiu chair of ANI and Greenenergy denies involvement with the Binayor that his company is a dummy of the Binay  ANI the agri company which is the money maker for Tiu, and Greenenergy were the biggest loser at Phil Stock exchange, and their share holders went on a SELL mode.

Greenenergy acquired 60% of Sunchamp which owns the alleged Rosario property.

However the contravening facts are:

Mabuhay Holdings, the precursor of ANI, the trading company for the post harvest facilities, was alleged to be involved, as per COA Auditor Mendoza, was one of the alleged supplier  over priced OS MAK equipment.

The corporate Sec of Green Energy was allegedly a partner of the Binay law office.

VP Binay says that the alleged expose was a dud.

However it is time that camp of VP Binay refute all the facts and the allegations vs his office after the facts were presented in the Senate hearing. This was strongly suggested by Senator Santiago

More and more top #govt officials interested in farming

It is more fun criticizing

It would seem that more top government officials are interested in farming.   A top police officer has a farmhouse in Central Luzon;  a very senior govt official has air conditioned piggery in Southern Luzon.  Why is there a sudden interest in such  investment?

1,  Maybe it is a patriotic duty?

2. Maybe it is because of food security.

We hope that the "babuyan" is not "kababuyan"

We all know that many avoid agriculture as an investment:

1.  When there is life involved it is risky;

"Kayo ang aking boss" what does it mean?#KBL (Kasal, Binyag, Libing

It is more fun criticizing

From Sona of Pnoy - from Inquirer

Rizal  Philippines   |  October 9, 2014

For all we know, this is a political gimmickiry.  All aimed at getting votes.

That means too that the President must pay the price:   favors, employment,  contracts, and maybe DAP and PDAF.

No less than the President himself declared war vs KBL -  Kasal Binyag Libing.  They pose difficulty for all elected govt officials.  Yet political patronage, our political system, the slogan. "kayo ang aking boss" dictates that the elected official given in to that. Such a contradiction.

Several President's men are under attack.  Indirect approach by Lidell Hart?  These are really meant to hurt the President (approval rating has gone down to nearly 56%)

Who are they?

Gen. Purisima  (violation of Code of Conduct and Ethics and PD 46)

Sec Abaya  (for the airport and MRT mess)

Sec. Abad (for DAP)

Is this part of mudslinging and campaigning early?

How about VP Binay?  Yes he is a President"s man because he is HUDCC Sec...

From GMA news

Names of "innocent" businessmen like Hillmarc and that of ANI Pres. Antonio Tiu were claimed to have been dragged into the alleged VP Binay plunder case.

Hillmarc was alleged by former vice mayor Mercado which constructed part of the Binay 350 hectare estate in Rosario Batangas.  The Estate supposedly contains:

1. A resort;

2.  Car garage for 40 cars;

3.  Horse race track

4.  Airconditioned pig farm

5.  A UK type garden (even bigger than UK)

A photo study of the Manggahan Floodway

It is more fun criticizing

Rizal Philippines   | October 4, 2014

From Wikipedia on Floodway

The floodgates

It has been a week since I got the pictures for this, but I am always postponing making the post because I believe this is a rather challenging and difficult study.  However we must confront this issue  This is politically unpalatable.  DEaling with vote rich settlement is a no no, But not doing so, not confronting reality gets the problem buried. In the meantime, we suffer the consequences:   frequent flooding, loss of property, loss of lives. etc

Background:

Manggahan floodway was built in 1986 at a cost of Php 1.1 billion.  Marikina river flood water is  diverted to the Manggahan spillway, instead of going to Pasig River, and MM, and to prevent flooding in Malacanang.   The water goes to Laguna Lake where it is impounded and released later to Manila bay via Napindan channel and Pasig River.  Because of complication brought by low and high tide and currents, and the 12 km distance to Manila bay, the effective hours of draining the LLake is effectively only 6 hours a day.  Thus, draining the floodwaters from Laguna lake takes 3 to 6 months.

Do narrow creeks and rivers affect your daily lives? Are they relevant to you/

It is more fun criticizing

Angono, Rizal  Philippines | October 4, 2014

This portion of Marikina river near Sandoval bridge has about 20 meters of accretion at this side;  it ripe for being a tumana, or titling.  The river at this portion may be 30 to 40 meters wide only.   No wonder there is plenty of flooding.  The Marikina river used to be 100 meters wide or even more.  It was like a sea before.

Most probably you wont.  Let the narrow rivers and creeks take care of themselves.

But they wont take care of themselves:

Rizal Philippines  |  October 4, 2014

From Inquirer News

I was one of the thousands stranded last Wednesday September 30, 2014 after heavy downpour due to a thunderstorm flooded parts of MM:    Aurora Blvd, Santolan and Ortigas.  I was supposed to see someone at 4:30 pm in Cubao. Rain started pouring in torrents coupled with thunder and lightning.

Despite the heavy rains, there was a wave of humanity:   FEU NU Ateneo de La Salle fans waiting for a basketball game.  It took me almost 30 minutes to reach farmers.

"With great power, comes great responsibility "  spiderman.

It is highly expected that the top govt officials will have strong sense of right and wrong.  (Even Chinese philosopher suggests this businessman -  right and wrong must be clearly established)

However, observations in the pronouncement and hearing did not or does seem to indicate that the current chief being investigated is aware that what he did is legally wrong and Rappler  thinks the good general may have violated 4 laws:

Who will have this road in Taytay repaired

It is more fun criticizing

Would you call this a road.

Rizal Philippines  October 4, 2014

Pity the poor commuters,  Pity the wage earners. Many PUV and AUV (Fx) pass through this road in Villa Valera (Velasquez road) and this is very rutted and badly maintained.  To top it all, at the narrowest portion, there are tricycles who call the road their own, and hence a lot of delays and traffic jam...  (Cant these trikes be arrested or towed?  Is there an ordinance in this town prohibiting parking along main highway.  Di na nagbabayad ng buwis, purewisyo pa.....!!!!)

You could lose a wheel or an axle passing this road.  They had signs before that it would be repaired.  it did not happen.

How do you deal with ever increasing number of terrorists and terrorism organization?  Negotiate, pay the ransom, be a victim?   Be cowed?

It is good that Pres Obama and the coalition are taking a much bolder and braver stand vs the terror threat.  They must be given a dose of their medicine.  Terror.  Terror begets terror.  If they murder children and women who are not related to the issue, the same hand must be dealt to their women and children.
