The Roman Catholic Conclave has elected a new Pope

It is more fun criticizing

The 133 strong cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church has elected a new Pope, an American,  Robert Francis Provost, as the 267th Pope.   He is named Pope Leo XIV.  He is the first American to be Pope

He holds dual citizenship:   American and Peruvian.  He is said to be trombonist and used to play at jazz spots in Chicago.

Sadly the PHL Cardinal Tagle, who was publicized to be the first Asian Pope did not make it.   The new Pope has been several times to the Philippines as an Agustinian.  He was in Iloilo when he visited Unversity of San Agustin

What will be the direction of the Catholics under Pope Leo XIV:   return to the basics and fundamental truth, to be progressive just like Pope Francis, or somewhere in the middle.   This is the cross road for the Catholics under a new leader.

Will Filipino Cardinal Luis Tagle be the next Pope? Pope Francis Secret Letter revealed

It is more fun criticizing

As Christendom grieves over the death of Pope Francis, must talk is all ready floating on his possible replacment.  There are ten possible candidates, each one being very qualified with the their experience and strengths in running Vatican.   Cardinal is 3rd in the ranking.  He is member of the central bank of Vatican,, and member of powerful councils of the church.   Many of the candidates seem to be very conservative and none as progressive as Cardiinal Tagle;   he is the one who is much younger than the rest and you withstand the physical rigors of being a Pope.

But most of all, Cardinal Tagle is recipient of Secret Letter from the Pope, handwriitten and which carries a very important message:    ie  Cardinal Tagle carries his spirit.   While this is not an appointment nor endorsement letter, it carries much weight and defines what Pope Francis desires in the future successor and direction of the church.

But of course it the conclave of Cardinals which will choose the next Pope and since this involves voting, there is still politicss, and power struggle to be considered.

This post joins the Christendom in grieving on the loss of the Pope.  May the Perpetual Light shine on his soul.

The alleged cussing of the Pope by Rodrigo Duterte taken out of context

It is more fun criticizing

Rizal Philippines

Rizal Philippines
December 5, 2015

The alleged cursing of the Pope by Presidential Candidate Rodrigo Duterte was alleged to be taken out of context. The issue at hand was the traffic when the Pope arrived.  The PDP Laban did not take care of the media well.

Ganito context nuon.  I was there when he said it. He was in a humorous mood when mentioning the vulgarities. (nagtatawanan kami noon) when the issue of the traffic which is related to the airport came out.  He just mentioned the vulgarity as part of the sentence and not to curse the Pope himself.
He mentioned that if we only have more airports, the planes could land elsewhere when a VIP arrives. And since we only have one, the arrival of the Pope became
the reason for the heavy traffic. Yung lang yun. No real intent to disrespect.
We cannot just change his way of delivering his message, which was a product of many decades of fighting an evil culture in his hometown. He may have his flaws but i think he can deliver the what i call "culture change" that we need. This presidential elections, is now a classic case of "choosing the lesser evil who has a genuine heart for the people."

This is a rebuttal/comment on the alleged cussing by Candidate R Duterte of the Pope, the condemnation by Church Leader Soc Villegas  from FB account of E. Densing III December 2, 2015

And people do commit these sins. Even from our Pope down to the most ordinary catholic, we do commit wrongful acts (I will leave my church if they will tell me that there is a perfect person in this world!)
But the most important church teaching that I am practicing and teaching my children is the act of "forgiveness"!
The specific issue of "use of vulgarity as part of a sentence which mentioned the Pope" should be taken at the right context. I was there, I heard it. I never felt offended because I saw in Duterte's eyes that there was no intention to disrespect our Pope...period!
Be it as it may, Mayor Duterte has already issued a statement, that there was no intent to disrespect Pope Francis and the vulgarity was intended to our current system of government. Let's accept his words at face value.
Our church leaders should have been more understanding. While they condemned the unfortunate incident, it would have been more prudent and humbling if they issued a statement of "forgiveness" and just simply advise Mayor Duterte not to do it again (as the confession process goes).
Right now, our country's main problem is governance. While it is ideal that we elect a "clean and decent" national leader who has the personality to fight the status quo - corruption and criminality, it seems we may end up to have an imperfect one. If it takes this kind of a person to uplift the life of the poor, eradicate criminality, and curb corruption, then yes, I would want to have Mayor Duterte to be our President in 2016!
