Many welcomed the appointment of very well educated and trained BSP governor.  He is close to us in college and many thought that nothing could go wrong.  And when it was published that he is one of the highest paid govt officials, well he deserves it because in his hands lie the future of the nation.

But now many cant defend him from the flak of deteriorrating Peso to dollar exchange rate?   Hindi ba meritorcracy and good pay results in good results?  Where is the good result?

Most of the best paid govt officials and BSP.  Save us sirs  Be accountable to us taxpayers.  

A low value currency (P64 - $1)  results in higher oil prices (and one feeds on the other) higher imports of capital and consumer goods, and higher cost of living.  It impacts the lives of millions of people.   And there are a number of them who are well paid -  millions in annual pay and there are 14 of them...

These are think tanks highly paid.... Why?

Who will not panic over this.   Lower petot vs dollar means more expensive imports and everyday prices:  fuel, food clothes and the like.  It means lower quality of life. Benefits of wage increases have been nullified.  It of not to panic if you dont eat or use importted goods or materials.  But we do..

It is reported that the deteriorating conditions of education in their location:    dilapidated buildings, high temperatures (no airconditioning) lack of teachers, have triggered mast protest in major cities in Europe:   in France, Italy, Spain Portugal.   

But spending in education has been one of the top priorities..

The supposed protests become riots and have turned into destruction, hurting the police, torching establishments and cars, and worse - looting.  How can young students be so violent and out of control?

Some suggest that planned deportation of migrants, Muslim influence,  etc have something to do with the "school protests"

Some suggested that other groups with their own agendas anti groups and that are funded by foreign parties have been behind all of these.

What do you think:   were they real student grievances, or other agenda that are against the govt?    Have they been organized and funded really by some external sources?

This is a huge bounty and anyone would turn in the said "fugitive" senator.  It is like winning a lotto.

The European nations are facing challenges to their stability due to recent spate of protests, many of them violent:   in France Italy and Spain   Due to lax border and liberal immigration policy    Now there is destruction and protests many of them violent.    Its either they tolerate these and allow chaos to prevail or resist in likewise violent manner  and or deport the immigrants.   

It has been advanced that a certain religion that spouses dominating other countries after they have moved their beliefs and their places of faith, laws, and espousing death to non believers of their God are behind these troubles.

Its up for them to decide what is best for their countries.  Otherwise, this is another case of Trojan horse tactic, or termites in the house causing the house to collapse. 

Is deportation the solution;   closing the borders as Poland USA did?   No room for multi diversity?  Be realistic that the other religion wants dominion and conquest?   Without firing a shot...

There seems to be some trouble in France.   Protesters allegedly numbering half million protested :  fought police, looted stores, torched some buildings and destroyed properties. They were alleged student protests on old school buildings, lack of facilities, lack of teachers.    But the pictures told otherwise...  Scores of policemen were injured;    many were arrested...

Lets pray for France.  We are much better here in the PHL?

Presiding Judge Escudero, gave a lengthy ruling given the limited time on allowing the Prosecution to withdraw 3 of 4 Articles of Impeachment  and to focus on Artile 2 - unexplained wealth.   It was observed that the entire defense team was unable to effectively squirm our of the numbers presented by the "forensic expert"   Numberd dont tell a lie.

However such withdrawal is subject o comments and opinion:

1.  If it was strategy and pre determined it could be termed as brilliant;

2.  However, it could be viewed as unjust:

     1.  The defense lost its day to refute the evidences for the other 3;

     2.  The evidence presented for the 3 other articles remain with the court

     3.  The familiar refrain from from the Cayetanos -  "What has been shown and discussed cant be unheard or unseen.

The other commentators remarked that the court must be expunged of the evidences of the 3 other articles by either the Prosecution or the judge senators.   However the greater challenge is as according to former Supreme Court Justice, is the possibility of declaration of mistrial...

Incredible spending by China on things that matter. Did we do this with our trillions? Or something bad happened.

The Phl head of monetary policy is under criticism from the masses who were irked that some of the solution of  Phil. monetary woes were due to poor savings habit and tendency to buy luxury goods.  This did not sit well with most wage earners who could barely make both ends meet let alone, save.... He could be made to explain why he caved in to pressure to sell Phl gold reserve.  It should be stable haven amidst the worsening worldwide economic woes...

An interisland shipping company recently banned EVs from being transported in its route in its RORO  vessels.   This came after the recent Arete fire in Coron which killed scores.   This move is seen by this post as a proper safety response to the said accident.  Because its vessels are very old and not equipped with fire suppressants for electric fires.  it opted to do it the safe way.

This post admires and salutes various individuals clearing roads of debris that clog the drainage, of cogon and other brush undergrowth that blocks the visibility of oncoming traffic.  I to became addicted to this type of civic works when I was in my twenties.  My cleaning of the gutter in front of our house led me 500 even to 1000 meters away clearing the gutter of dirt -  up to a provincial hospital near us.  I was warned that I could be infected by effluents from the hospital

Causes of flooding in the Philippines

The cause of the flooding has been politicalized and many netizens/ citizens are not thinking properly.  Gone should be the mindset that events are caused in a single direction by single element.  The mindset being advanced (in critical thinking) is that causes are systemic. There are many interrelated elements contributing to result.  Just like the numerous wheels in a clock -  when one or several stop or are damaged the watch stop working.

So with the floods.

Because of the flood control narrative being spread, now it is common for many to say that the graft, the propensity of govt agencies concerned caused the floods.

But an expert pointed out that the solution to the flood control will mean many factors to work on:

     1.  lessening the flow:   reforestation, impounding pounds upstream

     2.  downstream :   dikes, storm drain, flood plains, deltas, pumps, solid waste disposal

     3.   sea:       retaining walls pumping station, 

     4.  safety  and risk mitigation -  remove the residents from flood prone plains and river banks, coastal areas.  

In Pampanga for instance, the almost permanent flood at Hagonoy, Masantol and Macabebe are caused by cofluence of flooding of Pampanga river, blocking of the drain by the NMIA construction, and the high tides all contribute to the flooding.    Raising the street level was band aid solution.     Having floodgates and massive pumps for the Pampanga river, looking at the NMIA blocking the rivers are worth looking into.  However a friend who visited me last week told me as he is from Bo. Taliptip has been flooded ever since.  He said some groups are out to wreck havoc on RSA?   Anti progress progressives?

Pampanga is a basin coupled that with the lahar lessening the water carrying capacity of rivers.  And the contribution of the Pampanga river being backfilled by Manila bay tides.   

We have forwarded this knowledge to a developer who wants to develop in an area which is near the rirver and a gulf.  Its elevation seen in Google Earth is at -0.1 meter    Pag naghightide ng 4 meters, lulubog na ang site.  And then blame the govt...... and the politician.  We cant deny also that substandard dike construction lack of master plan for flood control, having projects that really matter, misappropiation (theft) of public funds are also to be blamed.   It is a justified  indignation that people decry trillions did not go into flood alleviation projects. Trillions purportedly for lessening the suffering of peole gone to waste (and we taxpayers are going to foot the loan repayment

For the past two weeks and even yesterday, the volume of rainfall was unusually very high.    Japan, Vietnam, China suffered the same fate like ours.    Wrath of heaven.  (to punish the plunderers?)

Coastal areas will be especially be vulnerable.   Decades ago, sea levels were predicted to be going up due to melting of the poles and the Himalayas peak.     May be we did not listen.  Many  resorts are being built, communities along typhoon prone and flood prone beach fronts.    And now we blame the politicians.   Those who do not follow the CLUP and the building code.  We bribe building officials, we influence the mayor to give relief to no build zones....

Whatever the outcome will be we go on with our lives and repair the damages from the typhoon, and help rebuild the economy which languished at 2.3% and peso weakening at Php62: USD1 and unemployment that has risen to more than a million workers.

One wonders how come we have cyclical experience of flood and other calamities.  We did well with earthquake drills, but not so much in flood conrol and prevention.   We all know the science about that

     1.   Weather forecasting -  it is well done

     2.   Rainfall and flood warning -  well done.

  

But our residents continue to live in flood prone areas, (especially the illegal settlers) there is flooding, there is flood victim relief, temporary shelter, they return to their homes that have been flooded.

   May we suggest:

   1  To relocate those who are in dangerous risky areas:  near creeks, river banks, lakes

   2. Enforce strictly no build zones in the CLUP of LGUs

   3. Enjoin developers to improve their drainage and provide for storm water impounding area.

       Why dont we follow the Ortigas and Ayala way of flood management:   deepen and widen the creek

       What we see with the Cainta Marikina and Antipolo developers is that they even block some of the 

       creek or choke them by making them smaller.

Also the science part shall  the regulators shall not allow development along or near areas:

    1. Where there is low land level or equal to sea level   when there is a high tide

    2.  No build zone in areas where there is cofluence of flood water and tide movements.    As in

         Pampanga, Bulacan:    Balagtas, Hagonoy, Masantol, Macabebe.  Yes there are no build zones by'           LLDA

This the company we had avoided building along lakeside, along huge rivers.    Lately flood risk area, with only 2 meters elevation vs the sea  had to be refused and shelved because it will be just like Hagonoy.  

N.B  Recently a local govt agency granted a permit to  set up a 500 KVA high power lines near residential units.   Has the science on EMF low frequency on health been established:   safe or unsafe?
