This is a rebuttal/comment on the alleged cussing by Candidate R Duterte of the Pope, the condemnation by Church Leader Soc Villegas from FB account of E. Densing III December 2, 2015
And people do commit these sins. Even from our Pope down to the most ordinary catholic, we do commit wrongful acts (I will leave my church if they will tell me that there is a perfect person in this world!)
But the most important church teaching that I am practicing and teaching my children is the act of "forgiveness"!
The specific issue of "use of vulgarity as part of a sentence which mentioned the Pope" should be taken at the right context. I was there, I heard it. I never felt offended because I saw in Duterte's eyes that there was no intention to disrespect our Pope...period!
Be it as it may, Mayor Duterte has already issued a statement, that there was no intent to disrespect Pope Francis and the vulgarity was intended to our current system of government. Let's accept his words at face value.
Our church leaders should have been more understanding. While they condemned the unfortunate incident, it would have been more prudent and humbling if they issued a statement of "forgiveness" and just simply advise Mayor Duterte not to do it again (as the confession process goes).
Right now, our country's main problem is governance. While it is ideal that we elect a "clean and decent" national leader who has the personality to fight the status quo - corruption and criminality, it seems we may end up to have an imperfect one. If it takes this kind of a person to uplift the life of the poor, eradicate criminality, and curb corruption, then yes, I would want to have Mayor Duterte to be our President in 2016!
