Could this happen to Manila? It is not because of flooding or forest denudation but because of over use of ground water by deep wells. Jakarta sinks at the rate of 25 cm per year, far greater than say 5mm per year at Venice. Indonesia tried putting up an alternative capital in Borneo. Who knows what happpened to this?
The thing is the river passing through the city carries with it pollution and filth
