Onionconomics - how come?

It is more fun criticizing

Onions reached an all time high price of P600 which it was reported, was higher than that sold in Switzerland

We wonder why this is happening despite the support of DA, no less than the President heading the department, low farm gate prices of  P15 to P50.  It can only be said that profiteers which could be a cartel are behind this  Traders   They are giving businessmen a bad name.

How come DA, and DOJ, DTI seem to be helpless to counter this, with all the trappings of power bestowed on them.?  Mr President, hanggang speeches na po lang???

We are all victims - the farmers and the consumers  How could this have happened

This post happened to stay for a while in Palayan and Bongabon and onions are  plentiful in this area   Of late onions were said to be rotting in southern Occidental Mindoro

How can we have starvation amidst plenty.    ?

How come we haves countrymen who can heartlessly put profit above their countrymen   ?  Do they still believe in God and heaven.

Syndicates running circles around the President

It is more fun criticizing

Some Usec made a big mistake of usurping the power of the Chief Executive to sign a resolution ordering massive importation of sugar despite claims of planters that harvest will be at the end of August, and that we have to have stability in food production (not to mention precious foreign exchange0  There is a persistent rumor that in most government departments, there are certain syndicates that are left unnoticed or untouched despite change of Presidency

And that for food importation, which damages most of our farmers, importation is teh easy way out and that permits are had for princely sums.

We were glad that the grand scam was caught and that the future stocks of sugar miller and farmers are protected.

Philippines to import rice again? Can Phil reach rice sufficiency?

It is more fun criticizing

Philippines |  January 21 2014

Rice is headline again.  Rice smuggling, that is.

And that there will be increase in price of rice due to shortage.

There are some said news of impending rice shortage, and importation again.  I was told that the rice shortage or conditioning our minds that there is a shortage and that the only solution is a ruse for some quarters to make money from this crisis.  It is not clear whether the crisis is real or not.  But according to sources, money is made several ways:

Making a killing on a crisis

1.  license to import rice cost millions

2.  bidding of rice from the govt agency;

3.  disposal of "rotting rice" which may be not rotting, or mixed with good rice.

Plus the purchase of fertilizer, the farm inputs, subsidies to farmers.
