This was the topic of a query of a believer on the veneration of the cross on TV segment of Dating Daan.
Bro. Ely Soriano explained that the cross was the instrument by the pagan Roman empire to punish criminals and enemies:  death by crucifixion (by nailing on the cross)  The criminal dies from loss of blood, exhaustion,  dehydration, and inability to breathe. Today's equivalent of electric chair, gas chamber or lethal injection

That the cross is being made a symbol or venerated for the Lord Jesus Christ does not sound logical to The Church of God  where Bro Ely preaches.  He said that this is equivalent to adoration of an electric chair contraption which killed the accused.

It does not make sense.  What do you think?

Well, yes and no.  Children suffer the sins of parents.  Thus those whose parents idolize images may suffer later on this transgression

This was also discussed at Dating Daan.  The sins of parents are those of the parents alone

However, the children of criminals should not be looked  upon as criminals.  These were issues vs Bong2 Marcos.  Thus we have to be fair to him.

In a short while, I may join the group of Bro. Ely Soriano.  He said that religious group must emphasize the salvation of its followers rather than tithing and charging fees for ceremonies.

To be saved we should follow the commandments of God and Jesus Christ.  How would that happen in many religious groups where they do not prohibit body piercing tattoos, vices and other violation of the commandments.

We should shun gambling, drinking of liquor cigarettes, sinful dressing entertainment.  We are known as Christina nation.  Why do religious leaders allow these to thrive?

I watch the program of Bro Ely Soriano occasionally and there are certain enlightenment that this post is getting:

1.  There is but one Father and He is God. We should not call other persons as Father except our biological father.

2.  God does not live in church made by man.  He lives in the Church of God.

3. Tithing is of the Old Testament.  This was changed under the New Testament.  You must give what is convenient for you but freely.

4.  It is not OK to be have graven image of God nor to have prayers that are repetitive (may be referring to the rosary)  He had Bible passages to support this.

And much much more.

What do you think of his teachings, which he says are not new.  But just in the Bible,  There are so many truths in the Bible correctly predicting what would happen to the world 2,000 years later

i happen to watch occasionally TV shows at UNTV featuring bible exposition by its leader Bro Ely

His answer to the questions are revealing:

1.  Why do we pay for rituals?

Blessings and Bible are free.  The teachings of the scripture.  are free.  But why are some churches sell the Bible or make money out of the scriptures and rites.

2.  Is tithing a must?

To give 10th of your earnings to the church was only teaching. It refers to the Church of Israel.  Not the church of God.  You can give freely as you please to the Church of God and its not mandatory.

3.  Must a faithful attend church services on certain day.

Attending church services on a certain day, ie say 7th day or Sabbath is required under the church of Israel.  Its no longer required under the Church of God (time of Jesus)

4.  Why do young people die?

It is part of living.  All people who live must die.  It is our destiny. God wills it.   And after that judgement, and the promise of eternal life. Gods spirit can not over power death.

But while death can be ugly and sad for many, the promise of eternal life, after judgement, gives beauty and glamor to dying.

Reflections

I would have admired l00% the Tamang Daan of PHL president.  Were it not for two incidents:  the guy who bought pirated DVDs, and the guy who heads PAGCOR.  They were not punished or subjected to the same strict standards as for the CJ.  I am not pro CJ, but if this govt is to look for Tamang Daan it must be fair and just.  Fair and just.

As it is, there are cronies, classmates, shooting mates who are exempted.

No wonder Eli Sorianos  Dating Daan is growing stronger everyday
