It is not so much of the war.    Its our deep attachment to USD as currency for trade   Maybe the corruption iissue,  fundamentals of economics (huge trade deficits) increasing ratio of debt to US (now Php 19 trillion), decline in OFW remittance.  

It also reflects defects n reporting system   Despite reported advances in use of non fossil fuels renewable in in our energy sector, the sudden spikes and in fuel prices and talks about oil deregulation belies the claim.  The country is still highly dependent on oil an coal.

Things to be done:

1.  Fiscal discipline,   Stop being a social state;

2   Push harder the non renewable energy drive; domestic coal and oil production and exploration.  

     (including moringa seeds for fuel)

3.  Encourage more agricultural and industrial productivity

4.  De couple from USD.  (like a BRIC country)

5.  More credible, honest to goodness leaders

While other posts praise the growing PHL economy (now no 34 in GDP ranking!!!) others just like this post criticize its performance and say PHL is a house of cards    

As someone who has invested in the countryside, and go around frequently for the site visit, Ii conclude that much local investment has been made and we can not escape the fact that there is progress and much stride has been made in country side development.  And the truth is Western countries cant help but notice the growth rate of the PHL and that it has become an alternative for sites of manufacturing for those who leave China or Vietnam

Certain level of skill and ability has been built on AI, computers, semiconductor and even on infrastructure design and construction by Filipino architects and engineers

Self development personal improvement is prevalent among Filipinos and that is something not mentioned in the article/video.

We can move forward despite the questionable leadership in the country

How will it affect OFW remittance?   What will be done to lessen the shock of loss of income once they return to the country.  Entrepreneurship must be taught and developed.

This is the siren song of OFW attracting fellow workers in the Philippines to join them abroad.  But what the author has conveniently omitted is the cost of livng abroad.  How much does it cost to live aborad?  The P7,000 may not match say P10,000 daily expenses.   Said narrative is OK if you work abroad and send money to the Philippines.

That is why in Canada and USA there is growing trend of homelessness.  There are all ready many street people in those countries.  Are we going to further add to their problems?

This doe not mention cost of travel long distance call and social costs -  juvenile delinquents children third parties, separatin of Husband and wife

The world is really experiencing shrinkage in economies due to inflation, high debt level, post pandemic, bad governance, wars and the like 

For those who depend on work abroad much critical thinking and research has to be made prior to deployment

I heard in homily in  Sunday Mass that 60% of OFW have affairs in their place of work and a great deal of social problems are created.  Indeed, away from home, lonely and devoid of any physical or sexual contact, they get physically  attracted to one another and thus have affairs:  married, single, taken or not.

The OFW I was talking to admitted he had affairs, being muscular and handsome

Will the RH bill prosper?

I attended a necrological mass yesterday, and the deceased wish was vs the passage of the RH bill. Well the deceased belongs to a very religious group.  And we expect that the religious will have a vigorous stand vs the highly controversial bill.

We understand that the rationale for this bill is to rationalize the budget of the government vs a rapidly growing population.  But legislating vs the reproductive practices of people may be approaching the limit of civil rights of the citizen and even moral rights.  As it is flags and battle stations have been readied vs the bill and the admitnistration may be in for  loss or embarrassment.

One of the reasons why the Philippine economy has been robust is because of dollar remittances from OFW? OFW remittances account for 20$ of our GDP.!!  And which was responsible for this?  Our countrymen who are on diaspora because of high population growth.  For all we know, our growing population means country with ZPG or negative population growth can count on this country for more OFW:  maids, seafarers, construction workers, entertainers.  And it balances the worlds resources.  Japan, SK and USA have top heavy greying population and their problem is lack workers in the future (they havent figured out yet how to make robots substitute for the dexterity and flexibility of human workers)

We sure have an advantage in this world's supply and demand situation for workers (as India and China have for now)
