POGOs to go by year end says PBBM at SONA

It is more fun criticizing

The POGOs have until year end  to be legal in the Philippines, after which they are banned.   This could be on offshoot of the discovery of crimes coming from POGOs due to problems in Bamban Tarlac and Porac Pampanga, and as a result of on going Senate hearing on Alice Guo.

The chamber of commerce have pointed out the negative effect on real estate, employment, revenue collection with POGO ban.  Maybe its politically unpalatable  to the President.   So he had to decide against POGO.

This was contained in PBBMs SONA address July 24, 2024.  He said that POGO ban would solve many of our problems but not all of them .  He ordered PAGCOR for the winding down of their operation by year end 2024

Hakbang ng Maisug- parallel SONA by pro PRRD supporters

It is more fun criticizing

A pro - Duterte rally (a coalition of Duterte supporters) parallel to SONA report by Pres BBM at Congress will be held today, July 22, 2024. at Liwasang Bonifacio (a freedom park).  Some 5,000 attendees are expected.

Why is this so?  Isnt this divisive.  During the time of PRRD, no such thing were conducted against him by predecessor...  We add more problems to leftist anti demo, more confusion

We need loyalty and respect to the duly elected chief of the country.  We cant move forward if anger, divisiveness, negativism is cultivated.

Better not.   A former congressman, ally to the said former president found himself in hot waters, was censured for making comments that were labelled as anti govt.  We need the unity we have.  We are one country.  Its not Mindanao vs Luzon or MM.  After all, these people should be thankful that bulk of IRA comes from Luzon and MM, not the other way around.

Comprehensive all inclusive Sona by PBBM - the state of the nation is sound

It is more fun criticizing

He ended the speech by saying the State of the Nation is Sound

The new President Sona which lasted for more than an hour had many interesting points:

1.   Economy - despite the shocks , the unfavorable exchange rate, high fuel costs, high inflation
the President aspires for 6 to 8% growth  until end of his term, exchange rate of P51 to P53
inflation rate of 2 - 3%  Poverty rate to be reduced to 9%

The debt problem can be addressed through better tax package, streamlining budgeting
      and govt bureaucracy right sizing

2.  Agriculture -   Improved technology and continuance of Agrarian Reform, condonation  to the tune
of P60B the arrears in amortization and penalties of farmers.    Free land to retired military personnel
and graduate of Agricultural schools without their own land

3.  Tourism -  promoting the Philippine brand and strengthening this sector by building infrastructures towards hitherto undiscovered tourist spot  Responsibility of DPWH and DOT

4/  Health -  a disease and vaccine center, more kidney heart and lung centers in the country, improvement of health care workers pay;   and more accessible health facilities in far flung areas.   (As promised in  TV ads

    No more lockdown

5.  Department of Migrant workers who will take care of OFWs,  processing of OFW woekers papers shall be reduced to 3 weeks instead of usual 3 months

6.   Energy

Increasing the share of renewables over the total energy mix
Review of EPIRA and the Grid Corporation on how the cost of power can be reduced
Review of function of ERC on how cost of energy can be reduced
Use of the nuclear power the modular type which are safer

7.   Dep Ed

     Face to Face classes
     Retraining the teachers
Arming the students more digital tools
     Return of ROTC

Investment in the education of children.   Quality materials for education

8.  DPWH continue the Build build build but more PPP sought

9. Transportation   the resumption of train projects in Mindanao Panay  and Cebu.  Train is
one of the most efficient and cheap form of transportation.

10  National Land Use act

There is a list of 19 priority bills which the young Marcos wants to be passed in support of his SONA address

11.  Regarding the territory, (maybe WPS) PBBM maintains that that we will continue to pursue the independent  foreign policy   We wil not surender not even a square inch of territory

12.  Internet ng masa.   INternet connectivity through out the country

"We are friends to everyone, enemy to no one.  But we will be jealous of everything that concerns the Philippines

Less need for street parliamentarians

It is more fun criticizing

The big ruckus about protesters insisting on their presence at Commonwealth was ended by the heavy rains  The post does not see the need to put their demands on posters placards and effigies.  There are all ready party lists that can address the concern to the Legislature

Lord knows best and laid to rest their efforts to create chaos and disorder.  God bless

Tight security for SONA a sing of paranoia

It is more fun criticizing

The very tight security for SONA where large police force is to be deployed a no fly zone is drawing flak from critics:  that while there is supposed to be 31 million stamp of approval, the protagonist is not sure?

In the light of the University shooting in QC yesterday, one can not afford to be lax    All ready opposition lurks every where:   the rally at Commonwealth by the activists, the offended Martial Law victims (blood was shed)

A one one perceived injustice triggered a mayhem.   How much more where large macro events are involved between their family and a sector of the society.

We have to protect our head of state.  We deserve that kind of self respect

Image result for rains flood SCTEX Bataan
Portion of SCTEX cut by erosion from heavy rains

From CNN, habagat and Typhoon Inday brings more rains

From Inquirer - heavy rains flood SCTEX NLEX, portions of Central Luzon  (would you believe there was flood at Sagada?)

I just got two text messages from my brother (obviously forwarded by some one else) pointing out that nowhere in the world is there typhoon; and we have had 5:   Henry Gardo, Maria to mention some of them. And we have intense flooding with SCTEX with Bataan and other  Central and Northern Luzon provinces (Pangasinan) bearing the  brunt...

Could it be that anti God remarks of the Philippine head be behind  this?  This did not only caused angry reaction from the leadership of the Catholic church but probably from God Himself.

MALAKING PROBLEMA PAG KINALABAN ANG DIYOS...Ayan na nga

Come to think of it that is correct.  And  this all took place at the heels of this leader  delivering an important speech for his followers.  His followers, not him, are being punished.  Kadamay

Pres Duterte Armed Forces on armed footing vs communist rebels

Image result for Duterte on war footing with Reds
DU30 a red coddler?  - Gen Jovito Palparann Now an enemy of the Reds?

Pres Duterte, the only President to face protesters, heckled and booed, was irked....

From Sunstar - No more peace talks with rebels

The President visibly irked by the Antakan ambush in North Cotabato vowed that there would be no more peace talks with communist rebels.during his SONA address and in the press con that followed yesterday, July 24, .   He would acquire more troops equip them well vs internal and external threats.  He warned  the communist rebels that they would be next after the Marawi crisis is over.   He also said that the communist strongholds where there are rebels and schools run by communists to propagate communism and subversion would be destroyed.   The anarchists may be shot also, referring the protesters who do nothing but sow chaos and disorder.:  squatting, take over of govt property

Duterte even  vented his angered on protesters who stayed their own SONA outside the Batasan complex

The warning came as the rebels killed a soldier in an encounter in Mauban Quezon. There was also an attack where rebels burned construction equipment in Lopez Quezon.  While the the rebels are staging guerilla attacks in a say deceitful way, they continue to sue for peace as is in the chant of the protesters, some news that the Reds are still open to peace talks

I think the gung ho president, the cowboy will not back down and will keep his world.

"Ano patayin ninyo ako, P.   i.  then you ask for peace talks?"

This is a quote from the President who was visibly angered by the ambush at Antakan, and the rude disrespectful behavior of the protesters as he talked to them after the SONA

You in the left, I will not talk to you. Why should I?" he said, accusing the Maoist insurgents of insincerity. He also vented his anger toward a group of poor slum dwellers who took over a housing project intended for government security forces. "You do anarchy, I will order the soldiers and the police to shoot. Even if I have to bury thousands of Filipinos. Do not do that to me," Duterte said. Some police officials in the audience applauded

Highlights and comments on Pres. Duterte's 2nd SONA

It is more fun criticizing

Rizal Philippines
July 24, 2017

How disrepectful of the President, ayaw makipag usap;   may mga representative na leftist sa gobyerno

Pres Rodrigo Roa Duterte delivered his second SONA today.  It was simpler, friendlier with protesters;   he later faced the protesters, where he was heckled and "nabastos".   Later he held a press conference where more detailed discussion of his plans were laid out.

Some highlights:

1.  His war on drugs would be unending and relentless;

2.  He hit again the US and UN for their criticisms on drug war and alleged human rights violation.  He can not be cowed by threat that me may be jailed by ICJ for human rights violation.  He has been in and out of jail before and is no longer afraid of that threat;

3.  He decried the TROs being directed vs govt laws,  like the RH law; the medicines were wasted and had expired because of the SC meddling in legislative and executive matters

4.  He supported the backs of his soldier ins Marawi and said he went there and his attitude there was he was prepared to die.   One must face an adverse situation with equanimity especially with regards to death

5.  He repeated his anger over corruption in govt, citing the case of as a friend former Sec. Sueno

6.  He is aghast over the ambush  by NPA of the PSG convoy in Davao.  Boy was he happy that he  brought armored vehicles.  His convoy was machine gunned

7.  He said that Joe Ma Sison is sick with colon cancer and said he is prepared to go to war with CPP for the next 50 years.   He chided the activists outside of BP building to go home because they are just wasting their time.  They will get nothing if ISIS let us say get into power.  He even hinted that later on those promoting anarchy can be shot if they dont stop

Clarity of vision the SONA or long winded speech because of Ad Lib

It is more fun criticizing

Rizal Philippines
July 27, 2016

Was it a that depicts clarity of vision or long and winded?

Former Ateneo School of Govt (ASG) Dean Tony Lavina that it was long winded and clouded.  He talked about war vs drugs, peace and order and concern for the people.  But the adlibs, from the point of view of academics, disorganized the speech.

But Duterte was focussed in his speech on what he stood for and will be relentless.  The content and the direction of the speech may sound simple according to Ted Locsin in his Teditorial,   but that is the task of the leader - to simplify the vision in a complicated world and focus on a couple of things. and being relentless and determined about it.  His experience and knowledge as a politician and prosecutor tells him that is what country need and what he must do.

Longest SONA in history delivered by Pres Duterte today `1:32 hours and very practical and pro Filipino

It is more fun criticizing

Rizal Philippines
July 25, 2016

The longest SONA in history was delivered by Pres. Duterte his first to the joint Senate and Congress session.  The emphasis again of the President was peace and his unending drive vs drugs, criminality and corruption.  Analyst would say that many of the pronouncement of the President which are pro people and pro poor would place him to be socialist, left of center.

Some of the key issues he tackled:

1  Announcement of unilateral ceasefire with CPP NDF. Let us not love one another more but hate each other less. The armed struggle is going nowhere;

2.  Federalism to promote ending peace in Mindanao; said we must emulate the French model.

3.  Some practical moves that touch the lives of many people:

      1.  Five year drivers license

      2.  License plate at Point of Sale (car dealers)

     3.  All OFW clearances within one building

     4.  Ten year passport;   more satellite offices for DFA for passport issuance

4. Relocation of Airport to Clark, for private jets and helicopter to Sangley

5.  3 day processing of docs both at local and national level.  He will follow the Davao template and even shame offices who will fail in this.

6.  More trains, extension of LRT services;  train tickets available at Malls and other locations

7. No demolition without relocation.  Businessmen who bought land can chip in for the relocation

     1. Rice subsidy to the very poor

8.  Environmental policies must not prevent industrialization

9.  Processes to be speeded up to encourage business coming in.

10  Human rights must not destroy the rest of the Filipino nation

11.   We need power to industrialize and coal is cheapest so far;  we cant agree to Kyoto protocol on carbon emission

12.  This is going to be a clean govt.   Even a whisper will merit investigation

13.  The drug lords are not here.  They are abroad

14  Full implementation of Reproductive Health law to limit size of families, make people workers more productive in their work

15  Faster internet:

     1.  Strengthening the broadband backbone

     2. Free wifi in public places:  seaport, airport, parks, libraries

The President clearly addressed the needs the issues of common people.  He advised Congress to pass the law that will give him emergency  powers to address traffic problems and make changes to merit approval of federalism

He needs the support of every one to make his drive vs drugs, crimes and corruption a success

He who is the cause is the cause of the cause.

Pres Pnoy's Govt has strong and great economic results but lags behind in job generation

Social and political criticisms

Many commentaries in Pres Pnoy's SONA has high marks for for the President on economic performance and governance but lags behind in job generation.   Many Pilipinos are still unemployed (about 3 million) and a lot more are under employed.  I saw an interview with Sec Almendras (at DTI) where the investment and job generation issue was tackled.

From where I come from this is the way I look at the problem:

l.  Entrepreneurial mindset must be promoted (Go Negosyo Go go go);   politics of patronage must be minimized;   less politics, more business.

2.  Political dynasty = business dynasty.   Families dominate both business and politics.  Politics give these families more monopolistic stronghold in regions and provinces.

3.  Difficult regulators  (need I say more)

4.  Corruption at Revenue offices:   at LGUs and central govt:   BIR and BOC.  Many online businesses died because of BOC

5.  More emphasis on welfare programs rather than entrepreneurship

So what are we complaining about lack of jobs?
