Severe floods due to torrential rains cause death and destruction in Southern China; a divine justice?

It is more fun criticizing

This came after abuse by Chinese coast guard of Philippine military at West Philippine sea.  Many of citizens comment that this is divine justice and is instant karma

This kind of conversation must stop.  The flooding is a natural phenomenon and God is good.  He does not want his creatures to die and suffer.   Let is pray for their leadership to decide better in WPS

Let us pray for their safety and for the rains to stop.  Calamities do happen to every one, including us.  We had our share of earthquakes typhoon and flooding.  And its not because we were unjust to some people or that we are sinful (as some say we are)

Mindanao now is experiencing flooding.    Are people from Mindanao sinners?  Or are they persecuting other people.  I think not

QC city flooding probable causes and solutions

It is more fun criticizing

A ty news described the floodng at  Quezon City last Saturday which seemed to be perennial
and master plan has yet to be completed in 2023, with NDRRMC notwithstanding

The usual causes were mentioned:    clogged drainage due to solid waste improper disposal,
residential areas in flood prone areas. (river banks which are clearly in violation even of SC Mandamus
of 2008 - largely ignored and disobeyed?)

Despite QC being a high ground, many areas are flood prone, what with many man made structure.
As early as the 70s how water can rise rapidly in such low lying street like Mayon.   Water rose up to tire level in matter of 5 minutes.    There are catchment watershed areas which gather water fast.

We are sure that scientists and planners have data on waterflow at QC and can have computer  model to predict flood rise with the following data:   rainfall, rate of flow (as affected by clogged waterway affect
water rise.

Thus infrastructures:   flood control infrastructures as impounding ponds (the idea is to slow down the flow) biological intervention (trees) can be set up;    stricter rules on garbage disposal especially along waterways.  (with severe penalties.  Note how a barangay captain threatened to have the residents eat the waste they dispose of improperly)

And the relocation.   Why has City Hall  allowed the construction of shelters along the waterways.  What happened to the SC mandamus.   Why are the LGUs afraid to relocate the illegal settlers?
They affect the IRA and their votes.

We have to have backbones to minimize death and destruction from yearly floods It does seem we are serious about this.  We always want to expend the calamity fund.   A flood free environment would:   lessen the calamity fund utilization, and dependence of electorate on the politicians.

Image result for rains flood SCTEX Bataan

Image result for rains flood SCTEX Bataan
Portion of SCTEX cut by erosion from heavy rains

From CNN, habagat and Typhoon Inday brings more rains

From Inquirer - heavy rains flood SCTEX NLEX, portions of Central Luzon  (would you believe there was flood at Sagada?)

I just got two text messages from my brother (obviously forwarded by some one else) pointing out that nowhere in the world is there typhoon; and we have had 5:   Henry Gardo, Maria to mention some of them. And we have intense flooding with SCTEX with Bataan and other  Central and Northern Luzon provinces (Pangasinan) bearing the  brunt...

Could it be that anti God remarks of the Philippine head be behind  this?  This did not only caused angry reaction from the leadership of the Catholic church but probably from God Himself.

MALAKING PROBLEMA PAG KINALABAN ANG DIYOS...Ayan na nga

Come to think of it that is correct.  And  this all took place at the heels of this leader  delivering an important speech for his followers.  His followers, not him, are being punished.  Kadamay

What caused the flood in Cainta, Pasig and Ortigas Ave Extension?

It is more fun criticizing

The channel could be only 5 meters wide, the rest of the river about 10 meters are occupied by settlers

I tried to find out whether the hypothesis that the creeks and rivers were responsible for the Ortigas Ave extension.  Surely, there will be people whose houses will be damaged, there will be electrocution, aids and rescue operations.   But the root causes will not be investigated nor removed.  They are there, we ignore, we deny that they exist, and that some of our country men due to their selfish acts caused this:

They will be always the victim; why cant we move them?  Why are they untouchables?  Cant the govt relocate them to a much safer place?

Yesterday was Ondoy's 5th anniversary

It is more fun criticizing

Repost from Summit Express

Flood along Dela Rosa St., Makati City due to Tropical Storm Mario

One week before the Ondoy anniversary, MM was again flooded:  Marikina, Pasig, and elsewhere in the Philippines by the onslaught of typhoon Mario

5 years after, and several hearings and debates after what has happened?

1.  Have the squatters been removed from the river banks?

2.  Have the rivers, creeks and esteros deepened and widened?

What are the causes of the flooding in MM? Any solutions?

It is more fun criticizing

Rizal Philippines   | September 23, 2014

The area near the SM Marikina is inundated because the floodway which is just 30 meters wide and 4 meters deep vis (100 meters and 10 meters) is choked and thus Pasig river, which is it was designed to empty into Laguna Lake, is flooded

Floods at Ortigas  Avenue ( can we relate this to the abuse of Pasig River and Manggahan floodway?)

What caused the flooding?  A flurry of interviews and TV shows and articles are coming out to analyze again the cause of the flood:

Again let us enumerate:

1.  Force majeure  - the 269 mm of rainfall for the 24 hour period is the equivalent of 1/2 month of rainfall.;

2.  Global warming -  the warm Pacific Ocean and atmosphere loads typhoons with more energy and moisture that fall as rain.  This is a very convenient excuse

3.  Clogged drainage  -  plastics, sand, silt, trash clog the drainage

Garbage and encroachment on esteros;  we cant fight nor convince developers to demolish their encroachment

4. Flood control projects, pumps that do not work  (Espana has had several flood control projects and yet it floods at when the dogs piss.)

Squatters must go?   Or they and us suffer floods endlessly?

Squatters at floodway banks (west bank) We have no will to resist their votes?

Would the flooding be the same if the banks of floodway were cleared of squatters?

From GMA news - encroachment of Manggahan floodway blamed for Pasig river swelling.  It has become narrower and shallower  - thanks to.....

5.   Settlers on esteros and river banks (accretion).  Pasig river then looked very wide.  Now it seems that it is only 15 meters wide.   Manggahan floodway is heavily silted.  Squatters dump their shit and garbage at Manggahan floodway.

From here we can judge that the Manggahan floodway overflow, flooded Ortigas Ave after the Manggahan bridge.  Manggahan floodway should be dredged and declogged.

August 20, 2013 floods - due to poor infrastructure/clogged drainage or climate change?

Social and political criticisms

PHL   |  August 21, 2013

Heavy rains since the whole day of August 19, 2013 caused heavy flooding in Metro Manila and elsewhere in the PHL.  There was an unprecendented amount of rainfall (a la Ondoy?) brought about by Typhoon Maring.

Several areas were declared under state of calamity:  Paranaque City, entire Laguna province, San Mateo, Rizal, Tarlac City, Pampanga, Bataan, Taytay, Rizal.  Some bridges in Luzon were washed away.  More than 600 mm of rain fell - a record high

More pictures of flooded areas; flood waters not moving

Social and political criticisms

This is just 500 meters from where I live;  no ants here

These are additional pictures of flooded areas.  It will take several months for the flood from Laguna lake to subside.

I watched last night Nat Geo feature on  disaster.  The most devastating and most widespread destruction coming form powerful hydraulic forces is from flood.  Many deaths are attributed to floods too.

Flood victims are usually settlers along flood prone areas

Social and political criticisms

Man, the dog's best friend and savior

The flooding in MM are yearly and natural occurences  and disaster preparedness has but become common.

But what is disturbing and pitiful is that the residents keep coming back to those flood prone areas:  near the lake, along river banks.  The residents are hard headed, and the LGUs, with political ambition in their mind, simply tolerate, at the risk of offending the residents

They too clog the river ways with their wastes.

How pitiful.

And this is what happens. And the usual knee jerk response.  Nothing would have changed.

Anticipate the kapuso and kapamilya looking ood with their solicitation for the aid of this unfortunate flood victims.  The cycle keeps repeating.  But it could be avoided, what do you think?
