Ang isan ideayang nilalabanan ng mga aktibista ay ang mindset systemang feudal, ie may patron na nanganalaga sa kapakanan ng mga nasasakupan.  At ang mga nasasakupan ay naniniwala na walang mangyayari sa kanila kung hindi sila kakapit sa patron:   landlord, politiko o sino pa man.

Kaya lang ang sistemang ito, at pag iisip na ito ay nagresulta ng:

           1.  Ang lahat ng pangangailanangan ng mga tao:  panganganak, edukasyon ay sagot, katungkulan
                ng landlord, ng gobyerno:   kaya libreng gamot, health care, edukasyon at lahat

          2.   Ang mga tao ay naging dependiyente sa mga amo nila.   Kaya nga malaking event ang eleksyon:
                Kung sino panalo may trabaho, may kontrata

          3.  Kaya pagkatapos ng eleksyon bayaran ng political debts, utang na loob para mabayaran ang
               ginastos sa eleksyon.   Ang eleksyon ay maipapanalo lang kung kumpleto sa bala,  tauhan at
               pera.  Ang mga lords ay may mga sponsor - ninong na babawi matapos ang eleksyon

         4.  Dahil malaki ang stakes, tumutubo kandidato at padrino nila, ito ay ginigirian at pinag aambisyunan
              ng marami.  Nagkakaroon tuloy ng away gulo hangganng patayan.  Gaya ng nangyari sa mga
              pagpatay ng mga opisyal sa La Union, CDO (taga Bukidnon)  at Daraga Albay (Batocabe)

Hanggang hindi natitigil itong sistema at pag iiisip na ito, uulit ang cycle.  Patuloy na magulo ang politika, pamahalaan at sosyedad sa ating bansa.

Why the political leaders want the culture of dependency to be unbroken? Why education and business growth would be the least priortiy?

When were activists about 40 years ago, we fought and chanted vs all the ISMO, ISMS. One of them was feudalism, (PIYUDALISMO)   It was  landlord tenant relationship, like a king to his vassal. It is a culture of dependency and patronage.  The tenants/vassal, the fief takes care of the farm and planting, the lord gives them all the help - financial, etc.  To be sponsors of wedding baptism, and take care of the needs of the vassals.  It was a healthy functional relationship. I did not know exactly why we activists were against.

Then came land reform; the farmers were given land.  And yet they remained poor.  Why - because no landlord gave them or lent them farm inputs or cash to tide them over during the time they were waiting for harvest.

Fast forward to modern times.  Maybe the farmers now have lands and maybe they know of the opportunities to be independent educated and wealthy.  The lords (the jueteng, land, drug, political, war) will exert every effort to make the people think of their own (by being educated) or be rich.

We must get out that thinking that the political leaders have our future and prosperity in their hands.  We can be who and what we want to be without them.  We have proven this time and time again.  Some of our multinationals expanded without govt help and intervention.  It was purely private venture and perspiration

For all we know, this is a political gimmickiry.  All aimed at getting votes.

That means too that the President must pay the price:   favors, employment,  contracts, and maybe DAP and PDAF.

No less than the President himself declared war vs KBL -  Kasal Binyag Libing.  They pose difficulty for all elected govt officials.  Yet political patronage, our political system, the slogan. "kayo ang aking boss" dictates that the elected official given in to that. Such a contradiction.

Let us move on to culture of resourcefulness and initiative away from culture of patronage and the free

Our laundryman seldom comes to work: when the govt local or national, distributes relief goods.  She gets more from her working out her duties but would rather degrade herself lining up for the coupon and registration, and getting the goodies --> measly 2 kgs of rice, two pieces of sardines, 1 kg of sugar.  The politicians rewarded her for doing that, and now that is her mindset.  She and the rest of her compatriots who were victims of the typhoon leave everything to the government, and without the govt, they will die.  They say:   "We did not die from the typhoon, but we are going to die without the govt help coming our way."  As if God did not create us without the power to be resourceful and have initiative.  We know the devastation is so much;  but as a Nora Aunor movie tells us:  "We create our Gods and our own miracles"

It is time we change the mindset of our constituents.  If it is backfiring even on the President and his cabinet, we only have ourselves to be blamed.  It starts with politics of patronage, of campaigning, and having a indebtedness and gratitude for that vote.

We have forgotten:  "Ask what you can do for your country, ask not what your country can do for you."

Social and political criticisms

All the elected officials last May take their oath of office today - a rain and typhoon filled day. Perhaps it does foretell the troubled and difficult journey ahead for the officials.

For most of us, both the governed and the officials, some clarifications have to be made on the role of government.  Government can not be an employer or providential. Its role is to govern rather than take care of the needs of the underprivileged and less fortunate. It does not have the resources to do that.  The European countries that did it are now bankrupt.

Many citizens think it is the government's duty, including that of the officials to provide them with their daily needs;  forgetting that the duty to live and survive, and thrive belongs to the individual.  We are all against politics of patronage and dcpendency and feudalism yet this action is clearly that.

"Ask what you can do for your country, not what your country can do for you" (John F Kennedy) should resonate in to the ears and heads of this fellow citizen parasites/dependents.

The elected officials, one Senator in particular pander to his particular need of the electorate.  And at the end of the day, we do not alleviate poverty;  we worsen it.  If we have majority of our citizens working hard to produce goods and services, then we may get out of the pithole of poverty. 

If we still continue to see a beeline of citizens at DWSD, PCSO, the social secretary of the Mayor, then nothing has changed and the whole cycle of dependency continues
