Ethos, pathos, logos

Social and political criticisms

The pronouncement that plagiarism is not a crime yet in the Phil, (or even at the highest lawmaking body) does not sit well with the principles of ethos, logos, and pathos.

The law on plagiarism is out:  but there is still the ethos and the pathos.

Does the absence of law make a wrong thing right?  Laws can also make the right things wrong.  Lawyers, is this the way you run PHL?

Come on guys, tell that to the Marines.  You guys have been fooling us... be sensible

Electoral Reforms for 2013

Social and political criticisms

This will not get passed?!

Subject: Congressional Reform Act of 2013

An idea whose time has come.

In three days, most people in the Philippines
will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.
*Congressional Reform Act of 2013*_
1. No Pork Barrel.

2. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. Our legislators
should serve their terms, then go home and back to work.
3. Term limit should be 6 years, just like the President with NO re-election.
4. NO Dynasty. No Wife, Children, Brothers/Sisters and Family members can hold public office.
If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people, then it will only take three days for most people to receive the message. Don't you think it's time?

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX THE PHILIPPINES
If you agree with the above, pass it on.
Please keep it going.

For other elective officials:

l.  No rigodon for wives, children, husband, grandchildren

2.  No streets, gymns, schoolbuildings, ambulances to be named after the incumbent;

3.  No campaigning (strictly) before elections.  Remove all faces of public officials from construction notices, ambulances, govt vehicles.  Such people shall suffer permanent disqualification from public offices

Pope is " only a blogger" - Senator

Social and political criticisms

I am sure that many bloggers, local especially will be up in arms and destroy a PHL solon for his deregatory remarks vs bloggers. (I think there are millions of blogger out there) Copying from Pope, from whom his ghost writer (and plagiarist) copied his anti RH speech is being shrugged off by famed comedian, in his usual element, as just "blogger"  This comment will draw heavy flak fire from bloggers who would destroy the good senator in the web. I for one am delivering this salvo. Do you think he is joking?

What do we expect from Iskul Bukol or alumni of Wanbol University?  Hahaha!!

His comment does not speak well of his stature as a public official, and even as guardian of the laws of the land.

In the school, plagiarism is not taken lightly with expulsion as a penalty.  Is there no ethics committee in the Senate who will punish the irresponsible joker? The Senate President that as of yet there is no law vs. plagiarism in PHL much less house rules vs the same offense?

But the lawmakers, are statesmen and high degree of ethos is demanded from them, even from former jokers and court jesters.

Being a blogger takes time and effort;  and should not taken lightly or being "just"

May the joker be enlightened and act respectably in accordance with his age and position (there are two jokers in the house?)

Plagiarism is common in Senate and ( SC)? No ethos?

Why the senator's plagiarism matters?

"Siya na nga nangopya, siya pa manglalait???!

PHL senator unapologetic over accusation of plagiarism

Social and political criticism

The PHL senator true to a comedian  ways, claims he is being cyber bullied on the accusation that his ghost writer plagiarized  blogger Pope.  He dismissed the allegation, saying that "Pope is just a blogger"  (What?  Bloggers are part of a wasteland and dispensable?  That is how some people at academe regards bloggers too)

Is the senator behaving properly?  Is plagiarism not a crime? Is copying from a blogger not crime?

Bloggers of the world, is copying from our work not plagiarism?

Maybe the good senator should not be taken seriously, nor his words believed on account of his irresponsible and immature remarks

And just go down the dust bins of history as belonging to show biz, as a comedian.

Nothing of his words, speeches, being copied, and being irresponsible are nothing.   Nada

Tenorio the little man brings Smart Gilas to victory

Social and political criticisms

Was it love of country or simply smart plays?  The much shorter, hastily assembled Gilas team beat the much stronger, millionaire US team with a come from behind victory, spearheaded by LA Tenorio

It was a great day for the Philippine, looking for great news to lift up the spirits, after the typhoon and loss of a leader.

The victory was wonderful because, again, the PHL was unseeded in the event, and did not have much preparation.

Yes the Filipino can

Tenorio was the diminuitive Ateneo player.  He was instrumental in some of the winning championship games at UAAP    PBA profile of LA Tenorio   Will this leadership by Tenorio change his standing and perception at his team at PBA?

Death of a person can lionize his memory?

Social and political criticisms

The death of fmr cabinet secreatry did a lot of good things for him:  those who blocked his appointment took kinder and view towards him and many immortalized him even at PDI as bayani.  Makabayan.  He sure did a lot of good things which is normally expected of a public servant and did a lot of unique things as a person, wore slippers, had a frugal life.  In fairness, he was an RM awardee.

There are those who are wondering if he were alive, he would receive the same accolade he just received.   We tend to honor the dead by saying many good things about him/her.  We pay tributes to honor the person.  death has a tendency to make us lionize the memories of a man.  And even make him/her larger than life.

May his soul rest in peace and God Bless him.

More pictures of flooded areas; flood waters not moving

Social and political criticisms

This is just 500 meters from where I live;  no ants here

These are additional pictures of flooded areas.  It will take several months for the flood from Laguna lake to subside.

I watched last night Nat Geo feature on  disaster.  The most devastating and most widespread destruction coming form powerful hydraulic forces is from flood.  Many deaths are attributed to floods too.

Live as if it were the last day of your life, dream as if you will live forever

Social and political criticisms

After the death of Sec Robredo, there were these talks:

l.  The CA regrets that his appointment would have been confirmed earlier;

2.  The cabinet secretaries should be provided with jet planes (the chartering was an ok alternative or fractional corporate jet)

3.  That he should have been appointed full secretary (not an actor) earlier.

4.  Praising him to high heavens

We hope PNOY finds an equally upright and dedicated replacement soon.

Who rules Philippine society?

Social and political criticisms

They say only two:    politicians and the religious.

This morning, I heard a Bishop castigating a group of professors working in a Catholic university (a sectarian one) for supporting RH bill.   I thought professors have academic freedom.

Then there is the third one affecting us in the big way:   actresses and actors.

That is ARP:     Actors, Religious and Politics.    Thats arp

Improving public sector management and making headway

Social and political criticisms

I was in an Eastern Visayas city, west of the island.  It is a port city and located in a cove and that it means it is a safe harbor, and plenty of marine life for food.  It is in the RORO route also.

However, I believe that the LGU management, especially town planning, town beatufiication, further health and sanitation can be improved.

Am sure the DILG can send many of the public officials to MPA as it did to some before to improve the LGU executive and entrepreneurial skills so that they can keep up churning new ideas to improve the uniqueness, attractiveness of their LGU, and thus business activities, and consequently their revenues.

Unfortunately for the city, a mother and son team (mother is head of the province, son of the city) with Chinese sounding name would seem to lord it over, thus diminishing the need to improve.

C6 is passable

Social and political criticisms

For those who worry about getting to work on time, you can try passing by CME, going to the western exit (there are some rough patches there though but short.)  and then try the C6.  It would be faster.  No need to despair over the Muzon traffic jam.  Do not insist on passing through Villa Valera.

This is good news for those who go to Paranaque or Ayala.

Interesting historical notes on Samar - notable was the Balangiga massacre

Social and political criticisms

I was in Samar for the last two days and some books that I read while in the house of our host in Catbalogan (the Singzons) reminded me of certain important historical events in Samar:

l.  The Europeans, headed by Ferdinand Magellan, sighted land in the archipelago on  dawn of March l6, l52l;  they touched land on March l7, 152l at the island of Homonhon in Samar.

2.  The Jesuits stayed in Samar for 172 years.  When they were eventually banned in Spain by the Kings court, they had to leave Samar and turn over to the Franciscans in l768;

3.  There was  Sumuroy rebellion staged in l649.  It was the so called Palapag rebellion;   Sumuroy speared a priest in protest for the Cavite shipyard forced labor:   hard labor, separation from family, little food and difficult conditions.  The rebellion was quelled eventually but many died and suffered.

4.  When Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo declared independence. Gen Lukban was sent in l898 to confiscate the property of the Catholic Church, to which the Catholics objected.

5.  The most famous of course was the Balangiga massacre of 1901.  In Sept 1901, the residents of Balangiga killed 36 Americans and injured several others as they rebelled vs American soldiers who rounded up 90 Filipinos for insubordination in a facility for only.  Those who were confined could not lie down nor sleep and were wet. In retaliation, Gen Adan R Cheffe sent in General Jake Smith, who just quelled Boxer rebellion in China.  There was an artillery bombing of Balangiga and Smith order was to kill anyone over l0 years old and "convert Samar into howling wilderness)  As a war booty, the Americans took the Balangiga church tower bell.  No one for sure how many natives died during this American reprisal.

This is a dark side of the Fil-Am relations;  anybody who knows this must feel like the Arabs do.

In Balingaga, foreigners, esp. Americans are not welcome/

Was this a war crime?  Why was Gen Smith given a heros welcome?

Did the Americans pay dearly for this in 2003?  On Sept ll (9/11)  Di natutulog ang Diyos

Traffic jams from Baytown closure is one big headache.

Social and political criticisms

Despite our suggestions to prevent choke points travel at Taytay Muzon area could take up 2 hours.

It is no longer because of the short stretch in villa:

l.  The roads are rutted;

2. The roads are narrow:

Some guys insist on parking their vehicles at the very narrow roads

The roads are narrow because the houses encroached on the ROW perhaps wanting to have the same as their living (or dying room)

    Paging public officials:

    1.  Please repair the roads;

2,   Please remove permanent and temporary obstructions.  Who are concerned:   Office of the Mayor Taytay, Rizal,  TMG,  PNP, DPWH.   We need your help guys

The so called landslides delaying land travel

Social and political criticisms.

Yesterday, I went to La Union.  The 4 hour trip took 12 hours to complete Why, there was news of landslide at Caba, La Union.  The drivers of Partas were smart enough to spend time at the bus stations so that the passengers can have access to food and refreshments.

Another l hour traffic jam at Aringay. It appeared the so called landslide was from floodwater rushing to the road bringing soil and mud to the high way. It looks to me that this preventable.  By constructing robust waterways and diversion canals, this could be prevented in the future.

Maybe DPWH could allocate funds for this wateways?   After the end of swearing and the floowaters have dried out, this problem would be forgotten and it would be same problem again.

Playing catch up on flood control projects.

Social and political criticisms

According to the news before, President Pnoy cancelled a flood control program allegedly because it was a PGMA program.

In a spur of the moment when he visited flood sites he announced two flood control programs (that includes a water retard project in Marikina)  much more expensive than the one cancelled.

At the time of BF, he abandoned a previous flood control program of previous administration.

No continuity in programs, a new program has to be initiated under a new political leadership.  Unlike in Japan and other countries with serious, honest to goodness program for technorats and civil servants, or planners/managers.

It is not corruption that ails govt services but frequent discontinuities and abandonment of existing programs or sometimes failure to execute properly

Existing flood control programs - are they adequate?

Speed up traffic flow

Social and political criticisms

The baytown route is impassable;  water is from knee deep to waist high at places.  The Laguna Lake has reclaimed what rightfully belongs to it.  Thus traffic clogs up at Muzon.

Paging the PSU of Taytay, TMG and its Mayor to make changes in its traffic management at Muzon.  It will slow down traffic and trade at Eastern Rizal.  It has now become a choke point and may we suggest:

l.  The four lane all through out shall be maintained from Aurora up to the Muzon elementary school;

2.  No stopping no parking;

3.  Pedestrian traffic shall be given second priority.

4.  Well trained and alert traffic enforcer must be posted at Muzon.

Only at the time that Baytown is impassable.

For your consideration sirs.

Thanks for the generosity and compassion

Social and political criticisms

News has it that there are shortages of sardines, noodles, bottled water and other necessities being bought in bulk by foundations and compassionate individuals to deliver to evacuation centers.  There was no need to appeal and to enjoin the more fortunate to assist.

We are in this together.  And with this, we shall overcome, though how deep the floodwaters may be or how long it will take to recede.

Nothing can dampen the Filipino spirit.  Mabuhay

Money Morning

Dear Money Morning Reader,

I'm writing to tell you that I believe the U.S. government - I'm talking about all of Congress, as well as the White House - is complicit in a dangerous cover up.

One they've been paid $606 million in "hush money" to keep from the public's eye.

They're hiding the dark and dangerous secret that the United States is on a crash course for a historic catastrophe.

D.C. has seen the secret reports created by the German military about this situation. They've even had our own Navy investigate the issue.

The United Nations has been briefed. So have 16 world governments.

But U.S. politicians have been paid a pretty penny by some powerful special interests to keep you in the dark.

And I can assure you President Obama doesn't want you to know about this.

Because neither he, nor a President Romney (if he was elected) can do anything to stop this crisis from running its course.

Our team of scientists, economists, and geopolitical experts have uncovered the truth of the situation here.

Because time is running out for you to prepare your retirement savings, your investments, and your way of life from what's coming.

Click here to view this controversial video before the "powers that be" on Capitol Hill pull it from the Internet.

Sincerely,

Mike Ward

Flood victims are usually settlers along flood prone areas

Social and political criticisms

Man, the dog's best friend and savior

The flooding in MM are yearly and natural occurences  and disaster preparedness has but become common.

But what is disturbing and pitiful is that the residents keep coming back to those flood prone areas:  near the lake, along river banks.  The residents are hard headed, and the LGUs, with political ambition in their mind, simply tolerate, at the risk of offending the residents

They too clog the river ways with their wastes.

How pitiful.

And this is what happens. And the usual knee jerk response.  Nothing would have changed.

Anticipate the kapuso and kapamilya looking ood with their solicitation for the aid of this unfortunate flood victims.  The cycle keeps repeating.  But it could be avoided, what do you think?

Trouble in America - Drought and Bankruprcy of City of San Bernardino

Social and political criticisms

Twin problems:

There are two big problems that US is facing now.  I learned form TV newsfeed last night:

l.  The bankruptcy of the City of San Bernardino in California.  It joins the ranks of cities that folded up due to rising costs and low revenues due to recession.

City Council declares the petition for bankruptcy

2.  The declaration of natural state of emergency in 32 of 51 states in the US due to extreme drought.  This will affect the food and the energy outlook in the USA.  Corn is used in livestock and the shortage will affect livestock production, supply and demand, the price to the consumer.  Corn is turned to alcohol, which is mixed with gasolline.   Is this linked in to climate change and global warming?

How will the ordinary American cope up if most of them are jobless?

What are the solutions?

Will PHL migrant workers stick it out in the US or will just come home?
