The joint meeting of Congress and Senate today convening as National Board of Canvassers proclaimed both Ferdinand Marcos Jr, and Sara Zimmerman Duterte Carpio as Pres Elect and VP Elect. . Its no longer presumptive but Pres and VP elect. Their status, power and authority have changed.
Senator Migs Zubiri said the proclamation is a time for first:
1. Having majority President and VP elect with both having more than 55% votes garnered (58% for BBM and 61% for SD)
2. Both Pres and VP came from same party;
3. North and South winning candidates
4. Fastest canvass (only took 25 hours)
5. Both Pres and VP are children of former Presidents
6. Highest voter turn out at 80%
Both heads of the Congress and Senate thanked the group of Leni Robredo for having waived their attendance in the event, and not objecting to election returns which was great sign of patriotism and greatness. The canvass proceeded despite pending cases at Supreme Court. The said body gave 15 days to comment, and did not issue a TRO which was beyond the power of the said body over the canvass, and which could have led to a constitutional crisis. The other issues vs BBM and or his family would be taken up as separate case and in its own venue.
