As is the usual wooing strategy, the Presidential candidates  have promised ayuda:   one of them a P200 Billion ayuda, more free education, lower priced goods.  That is the easiest way to say but funding those promises is another story.  The additional taxes would be another matter and the voters to be affected would surely be alienated.   One even proposed of selling govt properties to fund the welfare The CDE, Socio economic class compromise 70% of the total population  (about 49 million) and hence it is better to appeal to the sense of free and entitlement of the many of the populace

Some of the promises if done would make the country a socialist one, and /or the country would resort to massive foreign and local borrowing (We are criticizing the current administration for trillion additional debt.  

It is very usual that candidates (even the Democrats) to profess balanced budget, lower taxes, but as soon as they get elected run afoul with reality and then increase taxes, or water down their promises.  

Among believers of Confucianism, only Ren the superior men are allowed in public and civil service

Many were disappointed if not appalled by the performance of Presidential candidates at the various sponsored debates.   A famous iconic candidate in the field of sports even made himself funny and laughable in the recent forum presided by an Academician.  He was incoherent.  Though he was purpose

driven.

This would have not happened in our laws if in our written and unwritten election codes, only Ren as in China are allowed to run for public office.  What is Ren:   a superior man, an upright man both in morality and skills for public and civil service.   Many of the Chinese civil servants I met have multiple masteral degrees in various foreign schools of government or business 

While we are strict about qualifications of civil servants, it is not true for public servants.  This post is not sure if finishing elementary grades is a requirement.  We even allow convicts to run for public office, and even get elected.  Only in the  Philippines.   

Following this only 3 of the candidates would qualify for Ren:   a lady fmr VP, lawyer, ,fmr congressman (thus is experienced in public service)   a current senator fmr chief of PNP,  and again a fmr senator governor and vice governor    The others;   a former labor leader, a security adviser, a lawyer doctor former cabinet member may have the academic background, or practical background in their respective field but to lead a nation?   They lack the depth and visionary leadership needed for a future President

In the two Party system, the Party conducts its own screening process and makes sure they have winnable candidates and who best represent someone who would be President.  They hold conventions and elect their own candidates and write the line up.  

Here we simply would accept who has the guts and the ambition to be a President, but lack the credentials the skills, ability to be one.

The Chinese Confucius have a term for this.  The REN man the superior man.  Only the Superior man has the right to be civil servant.   And indeed while working for a renowned school, the Chinese students enrolling in the said grad school have several masteral and doctorate degrees from UK and Australia

Here in the country, aside from allowing individuals with court cases (not convicted or convicted yet) we see uneducated candidates.  

It is indeed painful to see national icons stuttering for want of words and wisdom in the  debate.   And to sense non sense in bearded leftist leaning candidates were saying.  Even a local lgu execs was winging it with regards to governance and finer points of international relations.  

One was erudite but seems to lack grinding his nose on administrative matters  ie running people around him.   A lady candidate was seen differing between what she was saying and what she went through

This post is happy that Presidentiable Lenny Robredo has a cogent foreign policy view on WPS; that we will not be dragged into a conflict.  This contrast with some of the positions taken by foreign policy experts, former senior office  of the  govt on the same issue.

It is fun watching the noises and drama prior to filing of candidacy.

Some of my observations:

1.  Despite the noise and the  show of family feud, it is still going to be Sarah D, and Digong D,  The fireworks are merely to throw off the opposition off guard.  Digong  is still the master politician.   

2.  Ping and Tito Sotto looks like a tame combination but not winnable

3.  Manny Pacquiao makes good in the ring (and even more so lately) but not good enough to be the Philippine President.

4.  The  current VP and her party are too weak to launch a meaningful and winnable campaign.

5.   DD needs BBM support in Luzon the  vote rich Region 1 (as he probably done so in the last election)

      So a BBM DD combination? BBM needs to strengthen the  hold on govt politics and stage a comeback.

Si Mar, in question ang competence niya kasi maraming mga question sa pinanggalingan niya ng departatmento.  Halimbawa sa MRT and the handling of the Yolanda relief and rehab.

Si Myriam, she seemed to lack the purpose/the passion to run to lead the passion.  She seemed to have lost the fire in herself, may be as a result of the disease.  And the idea that she was entertaining the idea of backing out.  She was a legislator and a judge, and would seem to lack admininistrative  skills needed to run this country.  As for her character,?....
