From Incapital -Isis assets over $2 billion

ISIS used to be Al Qaeda.  But compared to other underground Jihadist organization, ISIS (Islamic state,) is well funded and well organized:  has records of say encounters, suicide bomb attacks and number of casualties  has publication, uses social media, video presentation.

It has resources over $2 billion and thus attracts more jihadists.  It resources is more than that of small states like Tonga or Marshall Islands

How is it funded:

By extortion, by oil money from the oil wells it controls.  It must have a cash flow of about $3 million a day in oil revenues it uses for: recruitment, operational expenses, and purchase of arms.  Its largasse of $430 million came from robbing banks and selling artifacts

"Much of this funding is directly due to the vast amount of territory ISIS forces have managed to capture. Currently the group controls all of Iraq and much of Syria – a total swath of 35,000 square miles with over 6 million people living under their control. Also under ISIS control are the profitable oil fields of Iraq and Syria, of which the group is making $3 million a day off of.
While oil revenue counts for over half of ISIS's funding, they also have some other lucrative moneysources. As of June ISIS made $430 million from robbing banks in the territory they've conquered, as well as $36 million from selling stolen artifacts on the black market."
