Many say that this event (+ Sweden) checkmates Russia's ambition. Finland's border with Russia  is 800 miles long.  Its a long one.  But it is so close to St Petersburg and Stalingrad.   And USSR access to the Baltic sea will be severely limited.   Finaldnd can threaten USSR.

In the past USSR under Stalin made pre emptive incursions into Finland and lost territories.  But Finland despite maintaining neutrality, has built its defenses and continued conscription of male population into its reserve post.   Finland failed to neutralize Russia when it joined forces with Sweden.

Finland decided to join NATO when USSR invaded Ukraine.    

What will happen to balance of power in Western Europe/Russia.   It is in stalemate with Ukraine.  Putin lost out in Middle East with fall of Syria.  This has considerably weakened Russa   And now Finland joining NATO?  And to think that Russia's economy too has faltered, and armaments greatly diminished by war in Ukraine.  Military ranks too decimated.   Can it continue sable rattling....

The alleged gunman, suspect in the assassination of Bryan Thompson, the CEO of United Healthcare was caught with a ghost gun.   

What is a ghost gun?

1.  It is a gun assembled from parts assembled from parts bought on line.   It has no serial number.  And therefore is hard to trace.  It is not part of gun registry (like a loose firearm in PHl, or paltik)

2.  Or a DIY gun made from a 3d printer.    Just anybody can now make a gun in his house, provided he has a 3d printer.  The designs have been uploaded in the internet.   There are switches (that converts a gun to fully automatic by inserting an automatic sears)

The 3d printer can make guns that are not detectable by x rays at airports!!!.  

While the 2nd amendment in US guarantees gun ownership, the gun has to be licensed.  Silencers the switch and link for long firearms are illegal.

These are concern for law enforcement because ghost guns poses threat to police force and the community.  The news in US is full of mass shooting by students, at malls, schools and other public places.   

Expect stricter rules and enforcement on this ghost guns.   If there were no ghost guns, the suspect would not have killed the CEO

The last few days, first week of December saw Divine Justice, Karmaic Justice if you may call this.   For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction as physicists puts it.

Karma is real.  And it hits hard the originator of the action:  Some of the examples:

1.  France Castro who moved for the detention of Atty Zuleika Lopez has now been reported to be convicted and various administrative charges are being filed against her administratively, ie for remaining as Congresswoman after having been convicted.  She is now crying harassment and praying for BBM clemency.

2.  The CEO of a health insurance in USA who was reported to have doubled the number of denials for coverage, was assassinated in downtown NY;

3.  Later the alleged gunman was captured and now cries about injustice.

4.  Pres Assad who  was Syria's dictator for decade had to be in exile after Damascus fell to rebels.  From doctor to dictator and again a doctor in Moscow

If human laws are unjust, then ultimate Divine Justice will be fair and just.   We have to consider Karma in our decisions and action.

The police has finally arrested, on the on the 5th day after the shooting, a suspect, who is from Maryland, while eating at Altoon Pennsylvania.  He was identified by someone at MacDo who callled 911 and was arrested by a rookie.  It was the informant who was hailed a hero by Pennsylvania governor.

Police found a backpack, a ghost gun, (assembled from unliccensed parts) and 3 page speech which ranted vs corporate practices.  Luis  was a class valedictorian, and a Mechanical Engineering graduate at U of Pennsylvania

Police thought they would find difficulties in finding the suspect but again the long reaches of the law caught up with the prospect.

In lightning moves the rebels after drving armed forces of the govt, captured  Damascus, marking the end of 13 years war, 50 years of brutal regime of Bashad Al Assad whose regime was marked by repression thousands imprisoned and brutal treatment of enemies.

Some conclusions obserrvations:

7.  World leaders are not rejoicing over the fall of Assad, because this has disrupted the balance of power in Middle East although there regime of Assad over its citizens are not to be admired.   However he was a stable leader to deal with unlike the rebel leaders who could be unpredictable.

There were bullets left with words of Deny Delay Defend,  associated with a book of the same title.

United Health Care is the biggest health care provider in the USA and has been known to Deny many of the claims.

Authorities think the gunman is not a pro but probably a disgruntled UHC customer whose claim was denied.  Many comments expressed outrage over UHS (and not the death).   Quarters think that United make so much money by denying many of the claims.   

It is not safe to walk NY and many budget for security will probably  increase.

I was in a meeting before with a govt executive who told a story about his cousin whom he gave free board and loding while studying the City's Unversity.  He was fortunate to have a job, as an OFW.  Upon his return, he was forking out a nice sum to the govt executive.  Which the latter refused immediately.  

He said it was a slap on his face  It awakened him to a reality that that was an insult.   As a person, you must live to give, not to receive.

As is now.   If you are citizen it is your duty to contribute to earn for the community.  To be called a makabayan.  Not to receive doleouts from govt and from others.

This AYUDAs create a culture of mendicancy and lackk of initiatibve and industry.  Its entirely counter prodcuctive and can not push our country to progress.   No one will strive to study, to fund a job, work hard to earn, and thus contribute to country's progress and patrimony.

May be that is the best way for the detractors of VP Sarah to get her proseuted via impeachment.  Since she is an  impeachable official, she enjoys immunity from other types of cases.   There are several grounds that makes it possible to file impeachment proceedings against her.   But there is still the Senate to try her if the HOR files a resolution to have her impeached.

The possible grounds are:

Impeachment can only proceed based on any of the following serious offenses:

1. Culpable Violation of the Constitution – A deliberate and willful breach of the Constitution.
2. Treason – Betrayal of the country, typically by aiding its enemies during wartime.
3. Bribery – Offering, giving, receiving, or soliciting anything of value to influence the actions of an official.
4. Graft and Corruption – Illegal or unethical actions that enrich oneself or others to the detriment of public interest.
5. Other High Crimes – Serious offenses which demonstrate an abuse of power or breach of the public trust.
6. Betrayal of Public Trust – Acts that are considered reprehensible by the standard of public accountability, often involving ethical misconduct or gross negligence.

No 3 and No 6 may apply to her.

However since impeachment is political, this must be weighed heavily by the movers since Sarah got 32 million votes and the voses of Congress and or Senate may not be representative of the 32 million.   A people power or military action may  block the impeachment

We are seeing that in USA, the special prosecutor Jack Smith, has withdrawan cases vs Tump now that he is elected President    And so with the NY judge who has pending decision vs him (Trump is not a convicted felon)  The majority rules.    The will of the people has to be herard.    And that must be considered who wish to prosecute VP Sarah fdurther

SC rules the contempt and arrest order vs Pharmally executive was abuse of authority

The Supreme Court has all ready ruled that Senate in citing for contempt resource persons in Pharmally case is not allowed.   The SC ruled that the investigation  must strictly observe three rules:   1.  That this is in aid of legislation.   2,   The rights of the resource persons must be respected  3.  It must observe its rules.

And yet yesterday, they detained the CS of OVP, a lawyer...

The detention as a result of contempt is rules as abuse of authrotiy.

After touring a shoppers paradise my conclusion is that our country PHL is better than the supposed paradise.

Why?

1.  It is cheaper here.   The hotels, the fare, the grocery items, the food in resto prices are 2 to 3x more expensivve in the PHL.  The wages are hight but so are the living expenses.

2.  There are not much to see.  The tall buildinga dn the malls. We have them at MoA and BGC and even in the provinces.  They are no longer unique.

3.  We have kinder more cheerful, staff at hotels and resto.  It is not so over there.

The family and I went on a vacation trip in a city 700 km away.  At the time we left, there was a TS 2 in the North and I thought the flight would be cancelled.  The weather at the airport was fine and there was slight sdistrubance at the middle of WPS;  otherwise the trip was uneventful. 

On the way home another typhoon Peipito was brewing at Bicol.  Again, this post was fearful that there would be a flight cancellation.  They announced at was singal no 5 at Bicol.  Fortunately for us, there wras not flight cancellation.  The flight had little turbulence after take off.   The pilot announced the weather was fine at Manila and no rains.  Which it was.

Meanwhile the typhoon Pepito pummeled Catanduanes and Quezon?

May be the typhoon had limited scope that was why.  We were lucky to come home without incident.

However as an observer, Pag asa has been consistent and meticulous in informing the public at large fromm the development of the LPA its distance, and expected  arrival into Philippines PAR.  Lately their briefing incluses:

They are comprehensive warnings.

Situated in the Bicol Peninsula, it embraces the central portion of Camarines Sur, the northern portion of Albay, and a portion of Camarines Norte. The basin is oriented in a northwest-southeast direction and bounded on the east by a chain of volcanoes and on the west by highlands and lowhills. The flat alluvial land in the Bicol Plain occupies the area between the Eastern Bicol Cordillera and the Ragay Hills.

The runoff which is estimated annually at 5,100 million cubic meters, starts from the Mayon Volcano with an elevation of 4,421m, and meanders in a generally northwestward direction. It is time.. To investigate DPWH, the 5,500 flood control projects.  Is there a master plan.  The excuse that we had an unsual amount of rainfall.   Projects should be planned for maxiuum or beyond maximum because we know there is climate change

Japan has planned ahead and anticipated rising maximum.  Designs are based on historical data.  We know that there is an increasing frequency of rainfall beyond the listed data

More energy and time should be spent on investigating this rather than ejk and other so called irregularity

Flood mitigation measures.  

One of the first step is to obtain data and risk assessement of flooding.   Residents should be removed from harms way as those near low lying areas, rivers, lakes.   And permanently declared unhabitable.  The SC Mandamus might help

If it is necessary to declare certain Naga City unhabitable, let it be.  Am sure there are plenty of areas where the residents can be relocated.  We are constantly mired in this cycle of flooding and relief operations   One of the solution is not to have relief operations by stopping the cause

1,  Dams as in Holland.   Several dams were built at rives to  shorten the coastline.  And they were massive.  This was meant to defend the coastline of  Holland form the onslaught of the North Sea.  Remember Holland lies below sea level.  

2.  Dry retention ponds (in parks)  these may be parks or buildings where flood water flow can be diverted so that the flow is slowed down.  It could be football park, or buildings

3.  Separate storm and sewer lines

4.  Straightening storm drains

5.   Egg shaped drain storm drains

6.  Buried tubes to let water seep into the ground   As in Toronto and Tokyo

7.  Green infrastructures (to soak floodwater - sponge)  Shrubs and trees to absorb the flow of flood water

8.  Levees -  the traditional way of flood control.  But they collapse and causes flooding disaster.  

9.  Widening and reclaiming the flood plains for  improved water flow   (But what if the reiver banks have been improved or titled, reclaimed. 

Am sure the MDDRC have these measures that are proactive, not reactive.  

These alone or in combination can be constructed to mitigate flood

Our flood control engineers/geniuses can come up with better ideas. Or ask AI
